How much should I share about my personal life on my blog? If any?
Always include an âAbout Meâ page. This page is so important and needs to really tell your story: where you were at, what happened during your journey, what you learned, and how youâve come through to the other sideâŚ
Again, I canât over emphasize that your blog is about âYou, Inc.â The only way for people to get to know about you is by sharing your story, passions, interests, and dreams. By doing so, people will begin to relate better to you and they will see you as a friend who can empathize with where they are at in the whole scheme of things.
Let your blog readers know why you created this blog and what they can expect to get out of it. Youâll also want to share your life story (Not too long, not too short, just enough for people to get a good feel for who you are). Include a video or pictures.
Below are 15 points of interest in creating an âAbout Meâ page.
- Intro Paragraph. Let your readers know exactly what your blog is about. What are the benefits for them? Why should they read your blog?
- Share why you created this blog. Share your passions and vision for this blog.
- Give a brief outline or time line of your life story. Focus more on your personal growth.
- Share the low points in your life and how you overcame them. The more relevant to your blog the better.
- Brand your accomplishments. Even if you think theyâre not that noteworthy. Give yourself some kudos.
- Include photos and or video. Share your interests and hobbies. Anything that will allow people to connect to you.
- Give a clear call to action. What do you want them to do? Example… Follow me on my social media sites… or subscribe to my newsletter.
- Direct them to your contact me page or form.
- Get creative. Link to a relevant post or hidden page… example “Click here to learn 5 things you did not know about me”
- Write your story in word and copy it to your blog post. Here are some additional ideas when writing your storyâŚ
- Write your story with your readers in mind. How can you relate to them?
- Write your story to appeal to your readersâ emotions… not logic.
- Be colorful and descriptive. Paint a picture.
- Make it eye friendly, easy to read, small paragraphs, good spacing. Use bold letters once in a while.
- Interject sections with titles.
Really work hard on this page. The investment to write your complete story will pay out huge dividends. Just this last week I had someone new join me in business because of my story. Youâll find that the same can happen for you if you craft yours well, too. You can read an example âAbout Meâ page here if you like. http://karyrogney.com/about-kary-rogney/

Kary
Kary,
Right on about the about me page. I actually think it’s the most important page on your blog as this sets the tone of the potential relationship with your readers. This starts to build that “know.. like.. trust” factor.
I noticed that a good about me page will tell the reader what to expect from the blog. A good about me page will also deliver a good amount of insight into the owner of the blog.
People love to know how they can relate to you. They want to know the journey your on to see if they can be on that journey with you. We should not rob our readers of this.
Thanks for laying out a simple step by step direction for new and experienced bloggers to follow.

too… I really spent a lot of time on mine to get it
to flow the way I wanted. Along with really sharing
my journey. A lot of people probably relate to things
I shared in my story and will for your as well.
Talk soon!

one step at a time. Soon you’ll be able to look back
and say, “Wow! Look at what I’ve accomplished by
helping others.”

Great post Kary!
I just did a post on this as
well not to long ago… you hit
some KEY info.
This page is looked at by most
of a bloggers new readers… if
they like your content, they are
going to see who you are:)
Also, people should name their
page ‘About Their Full Name” instead
of ‘About Me’…
It will help with SEO…
Thanks for the info brotha man!
And great to hear from you my friend!
Great minds think alike… lol What’s
funny is I ran over to make sure I had
named my page with my full name and
sure enough I did.
Keep rockin’ the blogging world, Eric.
I appreciate our friendship…
Kary
Kary,
Again, great tips about being transparent & open with your readers. It’s not about using your past to enlist sympathy, but to show you are a real person, with real life situations that you have overcome. This let’s them see the personal side of who you are for a closer connection.
Thanks Kary,

Kary
Hi Kary,
Excellent tips! Put the focus on your prospects/audience is key because marketing is not about you, it’s about what you have to offer to your prospects/customers. Too many networkers focus on features.

Hello My Dear Kary,
This is NOT a post for just beginners! You have given amazing guidelines and important information that apply to everyone. Even experienced bloggers should have a second look and go through these points to see if they hit the key issues, when they wrote this page so long ago.
In fact, it would probably be a good idea to revisit this page at least once a year to be sure that the vision and purpose still match where you are at present. LOVE IT! By reading each other’s posts, we stir up our own creative juices!
I am so glad to be here having my morning tea with you!
Mentor Mama
Hi Nancy,
Always a joy to share a cup of tea with you as well.
I’m looking forward to the next time we get to hang
out too! I even need to re-look at my About Me page
as well… lol
Kary

Hey Kary, I’m a new inspiring blogger and love having someone give so much back to help others, like the killer tips. I love reading others about me page, it is such an awesome way to connect with others, because it’s personal, sometimes painful, but always inspiring! You really get a feel of who that person is.
As I started crafting my about me pg, I felt it was way to long and to personal, but my mentor Amanda- Marie disagreed, she said the more you truly share about yourself the better. So Thanks Kary for this awesome format to help others like myself share their story and journey, it will let others see the importance of having this page on their blog! You ROCK! Christina
