July 2009 Hike in Oregon

My buddies and I went on a 14 mile overnight hike to Lake Harriet in southern Oregon. We ran into swarms of mosquitos, a prowling cougar, and no tent! The scenery was beautiful but it was one of the hardest things I've done in a long time!

Well, it's a week later since our last hike up the other table rocks. Today was an adventure too! Instead of 3 hours it took us 5 hours. My oldest son took us on every side trail he could find. Unfortunately he was also the most tired on our return hike down... Today we saw a wild turkey and her 8 poults (babies), lizards, turkey vultures, etc... enjoy!

My buddy Jason and I took off for several hours and went on a new adventure. He had been there once and I had never gone there before... I even had grown up in the area! There were a couple of tricky, free climbing spots were we had to pull ourselves up onto a ledge... Awesome View! The best in my life!

The boys and I got a 'wild hair' and decided at the last minute to go for a hike at the edge of the Rogue Valley where we live. It only takes 3 hours to go up, hang out, tool around, and go back down. It was beautiful that day... a little hazy though. A great time with they boys learning about plants, animals, and geology. We even came across a 4 foot rattle snake!! Some other hikers just ahead of us walked up on it. Luckily no one got hurt! Although one kid jumped into the poison oak to avoid getting bit. Yikes!
