#FamilyFriday: Going Unplugged… part 2

 by Kary Rogney

This is my first followup message to last week’s video on how I’m choosing to be offline on Fridays to focus on my family and other priorities. I received so many inspiring and encouraging comments and messages last week. Keep me informed on your progress to take one day off and fully escape from your computer… (I’m taking my lunch time at work to upload this vid real quick… shhhhh)

PS Let’s see if we can get a new trending topic to show up higher than #FriendFriday… What’s more important our family or our friends? LOL

Awesome to see the follow up from last week! I love your classroom! It’s always great to see a fun, colorful and busy classroom for firstgraders.

We talk about being go-givers to our fellow networkers. It’s just as important to be go-givers to our family and give them their time too. They support us the most. We also need to ‘download’ as you said to keep us at our peak state.

This is my first friday going unplugged(except for now which is nap time, no kids to worry about). My daughters and I had a great morning and we are having a movie night and ‘sleepover’ in my older daughter’s room tonight. It’s great to focus and be in the moment with those we love most. I am still learning, like you, to tame the crazy work thoughts that keep popping up.

Thanks for starting the #FamilyFriday movement! :)

Hey Kary – great update – I did try the “unplugged” suggestion this week, but it was Saturday instead of Friday. Our family spent the whole afternoon together at the Fiddler’s Jamboree where my daughter performed and then had a fun couple of hours shopping and out to dinner afterwords. When we returned home, which was about 8 p.m. I so wanted to go jump on my computer and do a little syndication or check my email, but I didn’t do it! I continued our unplugged evening and I think everyone feels better having mom focused on them vs. projects on the computer! So thank you for the suggestion. I think it will be a work in progress for those of us who are kind of “workaholics” and chained to the computer in our spare time!

PS Didn’t last 2 hours when I tried to go unplugged last Friday… but hey, almost 2 hours without so much as looking at my DROID is HUGE for me haha… baby steps, right?

    Kary,

first, your classroom rocks! It makes me want to join the kids on the carpet area and be a part of their excitement.

I love that you’re working on taking time for you. It’s so important… we’ve talked about that. It’s something I work on constantly always.

    Hey Kary:

Thanks for sharing, priorities of family first is awesome. Business will always be out there but your precious family will not. Enjoy your children as soon they will be gone on their own and the short time you will enjoy and share with them your life has passed. I really agree with you on this one.

I’m glad you are setting aside this time Kary. Family, friends and lifestyle is the primary reason why we work so hard. When you have a 1000 different things that have worked for you, or you know WILL work for you, it’s hard to shut that off. It’s almost an addiction…

We have to remember WHY we are doing this. The computer will still be there 24 hours from now…Great inspiration for us all Kary…thx

I can understand you, but I have to say that I’m soo much in love with the internet that I’ll probably choose it over anything else !

    Hi Kary,

Wow! Thanks for keeping us posted on how your family Friday went. Until recently, I worked non-stop, but then it so happened that I realized that the results are more prosperous when free time is honored. We create everything from the inside out and the truth is that we achieve more by focusing rather than working long and hard. Work smart not hard is a very wise statement. All the universal laws of nature are based on it. Nature always works smart, never hard. And nature is the best example for us all. It is a proven fact that one can achieve more in one hour of focused thought than in a month’s worth of hard physical work. So I personally got ‘unplugged’ on the weekend. And amazingly enough, there was not much to catch up because most people are taking the weekends off. When I started this, I didn’t even plan it – just so it happened, I got carried away doing creative things that I love and afterwards I realized that I never turned my computer on during the weekend. It felt very liberating. And I accomplished more. So I have been using the universal laws of nature to create more instead of being online all the time. There are many distractions online now, so we can literally spend all our time there without realizing where it went. The longer we stay in front of a computer, the more we decrease our productivity. I am grateful that you bring this topic to us all. Great food for thought!
    Namaste,
    Venus :)

    Hey Kary ~

I love that you’re going to be keeping us in the loop of your progress of going unplugged. I can really relate to what you shared about being present in the moment with your family ~ I find that my mind is always spinning with thoughts, ideas, to-do’s etc. ~ it is a balancing act that I think gets easier with consistency. So I’m really looking forward to more stories!

Also, thanks for sharing your classroom ~ you guys must have so much fun! So when does the tribe visit 1st grade? :)

What a great idea! We need to remember our “why’s” and our families are an integral part of why we work so hard in network marketing. Thanks for sharing this Kary!
