Going Unplugged… What My Yard Taught Me? part 3

 by Kary Rogney

Mmmmm… I love the smell of fresh cut grass and my Daphne bush in bloom. Spring is definitely in the air today and my family and I just got back from the park and the garden center.

We’re heading out into the back yard now to spend some ‘outside’ time together. We have a great little space to hang out, garden, and whatever…

Over the last few weeks I’ve been recalibrating my time and attention with my family and taking at least one “unplugged” day in the week… a day not to do business or get online… a day of rest… a “family fun day!” I’ve decided to move it from Friday to Sunday and rearrange my webinars and tribe calls to other days, too.

Listen and watch as I share my plans and what I’ve learned while out in my back yard this afternoon.

Be blessed,
Kary

PS Can you think of any more analogies for life while looking at your garden or yard? I’d love to hear about what you’ve ‘dug up’ out of this idea… Together we can improve ourselves, our relationships, and our society. Thank you for your friendship, too!

A great song to be inspired by…

Hi Kary, thanks for sharing this time with us. Love the pond! My wife and I are going to be building one this spring. We’ve been doing so many renovations inside our house that I was jealous seeing you spending time outside =( I’ve been trying to stick to the Unplugged Friday myself. Not an easy task!
I loved your reference to slime in our lives, sometimes that’s not the easiest task to get rid of either. It grows at such a a slow rate sometimes it goes undetected ..haha..

I’m sure with time and care your flowers will bloom and add color to the other side of your yard. Thanks again for sharing.

Thanks for sharing your yard with us. Gardening is calming and exciting to watch the seeds you planted grow tall and strong.

Great analogies do exist in every aspect of our lives.
    Have a great one,

    Kary,

I love spring and in fact I was just telling my wife yesterday how much I look forward to spring and the warmer weather. Still a little chilly in Ohio. :) I hope you continue to post updates on your yard and I may do that same! Great analogies that I think everyone can relate with, I know I can. Thanks!

    Hi Kary,

Thanks for sharing your family & gardening time with us! I’ve always loved the many spiritual & life lessons one can get from the garden. One of my Pastors was a farmer prior to choosing ministry, he would often use these analogies, beautiful!

I’ve noticed a greater sense of clarity when I allow myself to be “unplugged” for extended time. Thank you for encouraging and leading by example the importance of priority!

    Rebecca :)

Thought provoking post, Kary. Nature really is where it’s at, it being everything in this case… I’ve never lived more than 10 minutes from a beach and don’t plan on starting anytime soon… I think I’d die, lol.

And hey I’m glad you switched your free day to Sunday cause our schedules will match up a lot better in terms of skype availability. And HEY send me the details for the tickets you promised, my team and I are really excited!!!

    Hey Kary,

Great video here. I never thought about it, but yes we can relate different things that we notice in our calm.

I enjoy gardening. We are going to try a couple different things this year. Thinking about some row covers to speed things up a little till we hit June. Do you cover those boxes that you have with the hoops?

Green grass in your back yard? We have literally 18 inches of snow still on our garden. We are suppose to hit 50 this week so I hope some of the garden and lawn start showing.

    Hey, great music video also.

    Later

I love your analogies with your garden. I use if you read my back post the phrase “My Garden of Good and Evil” quite often to reflect on my life. Lots of stuff growing in my garden and it takes effort to weed out all the bad stuff. Thanks Kary for being real and I appreciate you.

Happy Spring from Pennsylvania! I absolutely love spring and also enjoy square-foot gardening. The analogy I like best is the resurrection of life that spring portrays. We can experience the death of a vision, and it actually turns out to be what causes the seed to form for a fresh new plant (life) of great beauty and usefulness. Even if we have been experiencing a dark, cold season in our life, we must believe in Spring!

    Kary,
Great thoughts on gardening and life connections. Spring is a good time to re-evaluate and not only “spring clean” our homes, but our lives. Appreciate you sharing your back yard fun with us. I like those little garden square box thingies (forgive my lack of technical gardening terminology)…did you build those or can they be bought. I would love some in my back yard.

And…I LOVE that song, one of my favorites.

    Peace,
    Krista :-)

Spring is the greatest season – everything starts over again, everything is new. It is also, like you discovered a time for us to reflect and see what new things could make our life better too. Great post!

This is a great post. My day off is Sunday. I even put my cell phone in the off position. But I have to admit, I sneak a peak from time to time. Over the last few weeks, I’ve been a lazy bum on Sunday and more energize and ready to go when Monday rolls around.

    Hi Kary,

I truly desired to see your video and came back – thanks for fixing it. I LOVE it. I love nature, gardening and growing everything in a biodynamic way – it is a great passion of mine to do it and to teach others to enjoy it and use it.
As always, you hit on many subtle points there – enchantingly weaving it along the trip in your yard, lettin us think of relationships and our lives. Yes, getting the slime out of it is a great way to start and a thing to do instead of ignore. While I was watching and listening to you the book “Dealing with the CrazyMakers in your life” by David Hawkins came to mind. I haven’t read the book although I have it, but I feel its energy and how it connects to your point.
Thank you again for the enchanting way you weave entertainment with thought and inspiration to lead the way.
    Blessings,
    Venus :)

Kary- Absolutely love all your personal videos, and music videos. “On and On” by Chosen- what can I say- Brilliant! It relates to just about anything you compare to it.

The analogy of your life as it relates to a garden is profound and there are endless ways to connect them. Being outdoors and putting my hands into the dirt is actually therapy to me. I feel I am servicing my land/yard and giving back to it, just as when we are building our business thru personal relationships- we are helping and servicing people. We can only grow our businesses if we are helping others to grow too.
I collect rain water in multiple containers to use on plants and shrubs. Its like collecting positive energy for the plants- no chemicals, no chorine, good clean non-toxic water. I KNOW my new plants grow more when they get rainwater. Just as it is in our lives when we interact with toxin-free people- they add energy to us and enrich us in multiple ways.

In our yard, we have a steep driveway and when we get a downpour, the rain flows down the driveway like a raging river, taking dirt and more small pebbles leaving ruts and holes. We really need larger rocks and some french drains to divert some of the runoff or we will keep loosing valuable materials.
As it is in life when the wheels start rolling fast and momentum builds quickly, w/ a new Internet business and we forget to have some safety precautions built in, we will lose clients, or business to sloppiness, poor preparation, and poor followup. We can very easily lose the very things that hold our “driveway” together.

I have English ivy growing up one side of my 1927 house and it is truly lush and beautiful. But upon closer inspection, it is splitting the bricks and getting into the chimney, growing in and around the wooden window frames- it is actually damaging our structure. And so it is in your business and/or personal life. It may look beautiful and lush at first glance but when digging deeper you may find that there are issues and challenges that are damaging the very sustainability of your life structure or business.
If you are a work-a-holic at the computer 18 hours a day your family, not to mention your low back, neck and eyes, will truly suffer. Most importantly, as you said in your video, we must structure/schedule the day and week and taking a day to rest and unplug- its imperative for survival! Kary, Well said in the garden, good and faithful servant!!
Thank you for asking for additional comparisons. I have so enjoyed reading and watching your content and I see why Katie recommends you to the tribe!! Bless you and your family.

Thanks Dana for your thoughtful comment… It sounds like you have a great little
place there. And I noticed that you don’t have a link to your blog or web site.
You’re a great communicator and writer. Make sure and get one up ASAP and
let me know when you do. If you need any help just ask!
      Have a fantastic day,
